David speaks about what Los Angeles ended up doing in the first round of the draft:
“They ended up taking, as we know now, Rae Burrell with the ninth pick. And in a call after the draft, Derek Fisher, GM and the head coach, was mentioning that she was a player that they were high on and had been for a while and that he felt that she was probably going to be off and that up until I think it was, right before the draft he said they felt that she was going to be gone by the ninth pick.
And that the fact she felt that she was available to them. At nine, they feel really thrilled to have gotten a player of her caliber. And I think she’s going to have every opportunity to try and crack that roster this season.”
Los Angeles is taking the full 12 people roster and David goes into depth on why Burrell could fit right in with the 12 roster:
“She definitely has a chance to fit in, one of the last players to make the roster at camp. The sparks, I think it’s no secret that they struggled quite mightily on the offensive end last year. And she’s definitely somebody who can help contribute and bring some scoring on the perimeter. She’s able to get to the rim and finish in the paint. She’s just a strong scoring all-around score.”
