During the episode, Isabel shares some key differences between the 3×3 game and the 5×5 game:
“For most players, it is a different style of play; it is much faster, you have to react a lot quicker, you have to really be on your feet. And have your head in at all times. I think also, there’s just there’s no coach, which I think people aren’t really expecting. But because there’s no kind of outside person, you’re really responsible for your team and how you play at all times.”
The U23 FIBA 3×3 World Cup wrapped up last Sunday. France ultimately took home the gold medal, beating the USA in the Final, 21–18. You can read more of Isabel’s coverage of the U23 3×3 World Cup here.

Isabel also shares what she’s been working on lately related to the history of women’s basketball:
“I’m currently working on a story all about the history of women’s basketball in California, San Francisco and LA specifically … it’s a part of the WBL project that we’ve been working on and that y’all have heard a lot about on Locked On in the past couple of weeks. So the WBL being the women’s professional basketball league, which ran through the 70s and early 80s. And, yeah, I think that’s my main focus in terms of pre-WNBA leagues right now. I’m really excited with where that story is going. And there’s a lot of really interesting and kind of dramatic stories that come out of it.”
You won’t want to miss any of Isabel’s historical deep dive of the WBL, or any of the WBL stories that The Next will continue to publish in the coming months!
