For the second time in less than a month, the Mississippi State Bulldogs women’s basketball team has received a commitment from a high-profile recruit in the Class of 2021 espnW top 100 list.
Mia Moore committed to Mississippi State earlier this week. The 5-foot-7 guard from St. Francis High School in Alpharetta, Georgia is No. 87 in the espnW 100.
She announced her decision via Twitter.
Her decision marks the second commitment from the Class of 2021 for the Bulldogs in less than a month; both in the espnW top 100 lists.
On May 29, Knisha Godfrey, a 5-foot-9 point guard from Florida and one of the top high school basketball players in the country, committed to Mississippi State via a two-minute video posted to her Twitter account.
She is ranked as the No. 93 player in the country for her class, according to the 2021 HoopGurlz recruiting rankings posted on ESPN.com.
Godfrey shared her enthusiasm at Moore’s decision via a Twitter post.
Moore and Godfrey are Head Coach Nikki McCray-Penson’s first two commits since being named Mississippi State’s eighth head coach on April 11th. The team also picked up a couple of high-profile transfers last month in Bowling Green Graduate transfer Caterrion Thompson and freshman Charlotte Kohl from Germany.
“I give all the credit to our staff; they’re working hard…just 24/7. Recruiting is the lifeline of a program and we are very selective,” McCray-Penson said.
“Mississippi State is a brand and it was a brand long before I got here so my job is to come in and help them accomplish something that’s never been done before and that is win a national championship.
That is the only thing that hasn’t been done but I know there are things that have to continue to be in place for us to do that like getting great kids of character; we have to continue to compete at a high level which we will, and with everything the kids need to be able to do that and the support and we do.
“Mississippi State is not a hard sell,” she said. “It’s not.”
The Bulldogs finished the season 13-3 and second in the SEC before play was canceled due to the spread nationwide of the Coronavirus.
