On the latest episode of Locked On Women’s Basketball, host Howard Megdal sits down with Chandler McCabe to discuss the latest step in her career – taking over as head coach of Robert Morris University’s basketball team. A former player at Providence College, McCabe also served as valued assistant coach at Bethune-Cookman University and George Mason University. Additionally, she did a stint at the University of Central Florida before scoring her first head coaching gig with RMU. McCabe talks with Megdal about the journey to get to this moment in her career and what she has in store for the Colonials.

Megdal opens the show by asking McCabe about her decision to take over the program at Robert Morris. McCabe reflects on first visiting RMU when coaching for George Mason. “I remember walking in this gym and being like, wow, this is nice … this is actually a perfect women’s basketball gym, and for the mid majors … it was quite brand new at the time.” That memory, as well as her positive interactions with RMU Athletic Director Chris King, stayed with her.
McCabe then moves onto discussing what she plans to do with her roster now that she is at the top. “We were able to retain the top six or seven players,” McCabe explains. “We’re kind of going day by day to figure out [our next steps]. I think with the way the roster looks, we’re under the radar. And that’s exactly where I want to be.”

Later on, Megdal and McCabe chat about the most exciting players on the roster to watch for. “We have six transfers,” McCabe informs Megdal. “And I’m exciting about the incoming freshman, her name is Jennica Suggs. Her brother is Jalen Suggs, who plays for the Magic, so, you know … she has what it takes.”
