The New York Liberty have won the 2021 WNBA Draft Lottery and will pick first in the draft for the second year in a row. The Lottery was conducted at the NBA office in Seacaucus, N.J., earlier in the day and the results were televised live.
Announced during halftime of Friday night’s No. 5 Louisville vs. No. 20 DePaul game on ESPN, the Liberty had the top odds of securing the first-overall pick with a 44.2% chance. Last year, the Liberty chose Oregon guard Sabrina Ionescu with the first pick, and will again this year have its pick of the litter.
The Dallas Wings will follow the Liberty and pick second, jumping up a spot from its third-best odds. As a result, the Atlanta Dream dropped to the third pick, and the Indiana Fever round out the lottery teams with the fourth pick in the draft.
“Liberty fans should be really excited tonight,” said Liberty GM Jonathan Kolb on ESPN following the draft.
