Multiple league sources tell The Next that the Las Vegas Aces are in talks to acquire star free agent point guard Chelsea Gray, a key prize in the WNBA free agent sweepstakes heating up this winter.
Gray, 28, is among the premier playmakers in the game, a combination of devastating penetrating scorer and elite three-point shooter who became available when the Los Angeles Sparks elected to use their lone core designation on Nneka Ogwumike earlier this month. A league source tells The Next that Ogwumike is expected to stay in Los Angeles.
The decision could have knock-on effects for Vegas as well. A large salary commitment to Gray would make it difficult to keep Kayla McBride, another free agent, and multiple league sources tell The Next that McBride is likely to be moving on from the only franchise she’s ever played for (assuming we treat San Antonio-Las Vegas as one franchise).
According to a league source, as many as eight top free agents could change teams.
Much more to come. Want to stay on top of it all?
