On today’s podcast, we hear from host Howard Megdal about the Fever’s growth so far this season. Howard discusses the team’s improvements with Fever head coach Marianne Stanley both before and after Friday night’s big win over the New York Liberty at Barclays Center. NaLyssa Smith, Victoria Vivians and Kelsey Mitchell weigh in on the team’s rebuild as well.
Stanley pointed to the fact that the team’s five rookies have created a supportive environment for one another in the first weeks of the season:
Our rookie class is benefiting from having each other, for sure. The fact that, you know, you know, they’re not on an island alone, sometimes when you have one rookie, it’s tough, you know, they’re the only one in those shoes and it becomes difficult, but this particular group, you know, they’re they’re very upbeat, they’re very energetic. They ask good questions. They’re invested. And so they bring a lot to the table beyond skill, like the intangibles that can help them be better defensively. But I think the fact that it’s like a group of people that can rely heavily on each other and lean on each other really helps them.
