Spencer talks about how different it is this offseason:
“It feels entirely different. I think a big aspect of that is people are running the show who aren’t in ownership. When we think about how things transpired last year, all the decisions are basically being made by another three-person ownership group in conjunction with these coaches. And now you have the two-time the last two, WNBA Executive of the Year Dan Padover and new head coach Tanisha Wright.
So it feels like it’s an entirely different organizational culture. You look at the players who are still there Tiffany Hayes and Monique billings are basically the main holdovers from the last era of the Atlanta Dream. And while they’ve played a huge role in getting Atlanta to this point, there are eight-ish new faces on the roster. So it’s an entirely different atmosphere.”
Spencer speaks about the significant changes that happened during the offseason and how it affects the Dream:
“The Dream, the most important thing for them is establishing the young core. Chennedy Carter has the potential to be one of the two or three best guards in this league; whether she can stay on the court, whether she can find a role in Los Angeles or anywhere in the future remains to be seen.
But Chennedy has the potential to be one of the two or three players that turns a franchise around. And Atlanta lost that player. That’s a hard reset for a franchise that hasn’t made the playoffs in several years.”
