Adler: 'Seattle was a team that wanted to contend'
On the latest episode of Locked On Women’s Basketball, host Jackie Powell sits down with Emily Adler to discuss the ongoing investigation by an outside law firm of the Seattle Storm. Powell and Adler open the show by discussing some of the back story to the Storm during this past season. Powell asks Adler to elaborate on the tension during the first round playoff games between the Storm and the Las Vegas Aces. “It was a very close series,” Adler says. “Really for them, the ability to generate offense in the half court was horrendous. … The big issue is… someone needs to shoot this shot.”
Later on, Powell and Adler recap the Storm’s 2020 performance and what’s changed since then. “The 2020 Storm lineup, which was the same as the 2018 lineup … was simply the best lineup in league history,” Adler says.” Powell agrees. “Seattle was a team that wanted to contend,” she says.

To finish out the show, Powell and Adler continue to try to understand how Seattle got to this place. They land on the 2024 draft, where, Powell says, “Seattle was scrambling. They wanted to be back to winning, especially since they did not land a franchise talent … they decided to leverage their institutional advantages to get stars, and they wanted put themselves back into the upper echelon.”
