The Phoenix Mercury advanced to the second round of the 2020 WNBA Playoffs with a last minute 85-84 win over the Washington Mystics on Tuesday night.
Powered by Leilani Mitchell’s 25 points — including five three-pointers — Emma Meesseman’s 18 points and Myisha Hines-Allen’s 11 points and nine defensive rebounds, the Mystics looked set for a victory until Shey Peddy’s game-winning three-point shot in the final seconds of the game. Earlier this season, Peddy was waived by the Mystics and picked up by the Mercury in August.
Taurasi and Skylar Diggins-Smith came alive for the Mercury in the fourth quarter, combining for 47 total points, including seven three-pointers.
Phoenix will face the Minnesota Lynx and the Connecticut Sun will play the Los Angeles Sparks in the second round single-elimination games on Thursday.
