Latson is emerging as one of the most exciting players in women's basketball
Florida State guard Ta’Niya Latson returns to Locked On Women’s Basketball to discuss how her incredible freshman season was just a prelude to all she’s now accomplishing as a junior. Beyond the top-line number of leading the nation in scoring is a deeply compelling two-way player who defends as well as she scores and is making decisions as lead playmaker as well as anyone in the country. She also discusses what it means to be an elite college athlete in this name, image and likeness (NIL) moment, and how she wants to be remembered when she makes the inevitable leap to the pros.

Latson’s evolution as a player has been nothing short of remarkable, with her shooting ability, vision and overall game growth standing out. Reflecting on her journey, she credits her shooting improvements as one of her biggest accomplishments. “I feel like I’ve been shooting the best I’ve shot my whole entire career,” she shared on the podcast, noting that consistency in her 3-point shooting and vision on the court have been areas of intense focus.
These improvements are evident in her current performance, where she’s hitting 44% of her 3-point shots, a number that is impressive for any player, and especially given her multifaceted game that includes high-level defense and playmaking responsibilities.
As Latson continues to break new ground, her focus remains on consistent improvement. She has scored 21 or more points in every game this season, often reaching the 30s, but she is just as committed to other aspects of her game, such as assists and rebounds. Her ability to take the floor with a clear sense of how she can contribute to her team’s success is a testament to her mental and physical growth. “I just go out there and do it,” she said, describing her mindset when taking on challenges like achieving a triple-double. With her growth and maturity, Latson is emerging as one of the most exciting players in women’s basketball today.
