The high schools which dominate the nominations are IMG Academy and Montverde Academy with 10 nominees each; followed by New Hope Academy and Southern California Academy/Santa Clarita Valley International with eight apiece.
The finest college recruits and commits across the country also top the list. Colleges have been scouting these players for the past few years. But before they gear up for collegiate play, they’ll be honored in the famous All-American game in front of a national television audience.
Reigning champs Stanford’s top 2022 recruit Lauren Betts and Indya Nivar, UConn’s Isuneh ‘Ice’ Brady and Ayanna Patterson, UCLA’s Kiki Rice and South Carolina’s Talaysia Cooper all are nominees and likely additions to the roster.
The official roster will be revealed Tuesday, Jan. 25, on ESPN’s “NBA Today” between 3-4 p.m. ET.
This year’s games are especially significant due to the COVID-19 pandemic’s interruptions to previous games. Although McDonald’s named rosters in 2020 and 2021, official games were not played.
Over its 45-year history, the McDonald’s All American Games boasts some of the most legendary talents to grace basketball on both the men’s and women’s side. Diana Taurasi, Cynthia Cooper, Candace Parker, Maya Moore and Breanna Stewart are just some of the few who have starred in past games.
So, after two years of unexpected cancellations, the resurgence of the historical game plays an important role in the women’s basketball landscape for viewers and players alike.
The game will be held Tuesday, March 29 at 6:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2 in the Chicago Sky’s home Wintrust Arena, with the top 24 nominees selected for the roster.
