The WNBA announced that Connecticut Sun head coach Curt Miller has been fined $10,000 and will be suspended for one game for a comment he made regarding Las Vegas Aces star Liz Cambage.
After the Connecticut Sun defeated the Aces 72-65 on Sunday, Cambage posted an Instagram Story on her personal account sharing a comment that Miller had made during the game. Cambage said Miller referenced her bodyweight while arguing with an official. She elaborated to share that she thinks there’s a difference between players trash-talking on the court, compared to a coach yelling “protected abuse.”
The Sun later released a statement on behalf of Curt Miller.
“During last night’s game, while arguing a call with an official, I made an inappropriate and offensive comment in reference to Liz Cambage’s height and weight. I regret what I said in the heat of the moment and want to sincerely apologize to Liz and the entire Aces organization. I understand the gravity of my words and have learned from this.”
Lexie Brown, who played for Curt Miller on the Connecticut Sun during the 2018 season, shared via her Twitter that she has witnessed similar comments from Miller, who Cambage referred to as “little sir man” during her Instagram Story.
Curt Miller will be suspended for Connecticut’s game tomorrow night versus the Storm in Seattle. Storm coach Dan Hughes will also miss tomorrow night’s game to attend his son’s graduation.
The Aces and Sun will meet again next Tuesday, June 1 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville.
