Jesse and Natalie talk about the Mercury and their recent record-breaking performances
Diana Taurasi made history this week scoring the 10,000th point of her decorated WNBA career. Jesse and Natalie talked first about the Mercury’s game against the Connecticut Sun in which they scored 45 first-quarter points. They cooled off significantly after that scoring no more than 20 in any other quarter and a game-low seven in the second. They shot 55.4% for the game.
“It was just the 2023 Phoenix Mercury in a nutshell,” Jesse said. “They come out and they’re just amazing offensively in a quarter and then they score seven points in the next quarter. That’s been this team basically this entire season. Once they start to get it going, they just don’t sustain it.”
In the second segment, they talked about Taurasi who scored 42 points against Atlanta on Aug. 3 and became the league’s first player to pass the 10,000-point threshold for their career. Jesse also covered the achievement in print, so do not miss that article.
“The shot to hit 10,000 points was a deep three with a hand in her face and she just nailed it, then just kept going and ended up with 42 points in a 20-point win,” Jesse said. “It was like watching Diana Taurasi in 2020. It was like totally a blast from the past and it was kind of what we had seen, even on another level, in the past few games leading up to that. She just turned back the clock recently with great performances.”
