College basketball starts tomorrow and Pepper asked Debbie Antonelli how excited she is for college basketball to start with fans back in stadiums. And this is what Debbie had to say:
“I’ve already been to a lot of gyms for practice and all around the country from Kentucky and Ohio State to North Carolina to Clemson to all these different places on the men and the women’s side. And I can tell you, the fans cannot wait for the players and the coaches cannot wait to play and perform in front of the fans. So I’m thrilled that we’re going to get a chance to get back on the road, I’m not going to be sitting here calling games as much I’m going to have a chance to be in the gym. And that’s my favorite part.”
Debbie shares an important message regarding the narrative the coaches need to stick with instead of comparing leagues versus another. Here is what she had to say:
“The hashtag, product is the narrative. Our product is so good in the women’s game, I really don’t want to hear the coaches talk about how great their league is versus another. What I really want to hear the coaches talk about is how great the product is. I think if we can share that narrative across the landscape of the women’s game, I think it will do us a much better service. People want to print something that has some substance to it.
Because there’s so many really good players, there’s so many really good teams, the COVID year allowed us to have super seniors. And it has given us older and deeper teams that are highly competitive, it is going to be so much fun when we get to March.”
