Dallas Wings’ Bella Alarie will sit out 2022 season

Bella Alarie informed the Dallas Wings that she will not be playing in the upcoming WNBA season for personal reasons, the team announced on Thursday.

She said in her Instagram post that she is looking forward to the opportunity to rest and recharge. She is currently playing overseas with Perfumerias Avenida where she is averaging 5 points per game and 4.3 rebounds per game. The team is currently gearing up for the Euroleague Women Final Four in Istanbul.
Alarie averaged 2.6 points and 3.1 rebounds per game in her two seasons with the Dallas Wings.
The Wings now have 12 players on their roster and have three picks in the upcoming WNBA draft, which takes place on April 11. If the team uses all three of its picks — No. 7 in the first round and Nos. 30 and 31 in the third — then they have to plethora of cuts to make.
Alarie deciding to sit out the 2022 season has made things just a little bit easier, but there is still a glut of post players left. The Wings drafted two centers in 2021, Charli Collier and Awak Kuier, and they also traded with the Indiana Fever for Teaira McCowan on March 8. It has seemed clear that there’s not a lot of room for development with this organization.
Alarie’s playing rights will remain with Dallas upon her return to the league. Wings President & CEO Greg Bibb said in a press release that the organization is supportive of Alarie’s decision and looks forward to welcoming her back to the team at the appropriate time in the future.
